Repotting African Violets
With the start of 2020, let’s talk about house plants. Now is the perfect time to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty – Repotting African Violets. Here in Tennessee, it is cold and grey outside. This makes me look for ways to play gardener inside. DIY Repotting African Violets is a quick and easy way to breathe new life into your plants and YOURSELF!
Several years ago, I saw Martha Stewart demonstrate how to repot an African Violet. I was so surprised at how much abuse a plant could take and thrive afterwards.
The first step in Repotting African Violets is to carefully remove the plant from the soil. They don’t have a huge root system, so be careful. (If you happen to break all of the roots off DON’T CRY! IT WILL STILL GROW)
Next, you want to use a paring knife to trim all of the growths off of the tuber that has grown above the surface of the soil.
Once you have all of the tuber smooth, the violet is ready for its new pot and soil. I like to use fresh soil like Miracle Grow Indoor Potting Soil.
I hope DIY Repotting African Violets inspires you to dig in the dirt during these cold months. It is good for our plants and for our soul! XOXO Lara
