Strawberry Pretzel Salad
As we explore Old Southern Recipes, it feels important to share this Strawberry Pretzel Salad. This is a classic recipe that is more than 40 years old. Yet it is as delicious as it was when it was first invented.
Pretzels
There has been some debate as to how “crushed” the pretzels need to be for this recipe. I will say this, as I have in the past, it’s food. This Strawberry Pretzel Salad is not complicated. So, the size of the pretzels is not that important. Crush them to your desired texture. I left mine barely crushed because I love crunchy things. Everyone loved it.
For those of you needing a Gluten-Free option. I made the one featured in the video with Snyder’s GF Pretzels. It worked beautifully and tasted exactly the same as the standard Strawberry Pretzel Salad.
Strawberries
There has also been some debate as to whether you should use frozen strawberries or fresh. For this and most fruits, I prefer fresh. Typically, frozen strawberries come in a sugar syrup. This adds extra sugar and liquid to your jello layer. And you don’t want to risk it not gelling.
Easter Recipes
As we head into Easter, this is a great option as a sweet treat. It makes a great addition to your dessert table. If you are looking for other Easter Recipes, my Scalloped Potatoes with Gouda Cheese is an excellent choice. Whenever I bake this delicious potato dish, the dish is always empty at the end of the meal.
